The Top Photo Awards (TPA) has officially announced the results of the Faces of Strength: Men’s Portrait Photography Contest, with British portrait photographer Edward Olive taking Second Place honours.
Selected from over 1,380 entries submitted by photographers worldwide, Olive’s work was recognised for its profound intensity and technical mastery. In addition to his second-place finish, Olive secured placements within the Top 50 and Top 100 categories, marking a significant achievement in the 2026 international awards circuit.
Strength Through the Lens: Aleksei Tiurin
The second place award-winning photo features the Madrid-based Russian model Aleksei Tiurin. Shot in Olive’s Madrid studio, the portraits utilise a classic Chiaroscuro technique—using the interplay of light and shadow to sculpt the face and amplify the subject’s presence.

For Olive, these awards represent a move away from the sterile, «standard» professional photography norms that have become commonplace.
«I am looking for the intensity of the look into the camera—a genuine connection between the subject and the viewer,» says Olive. «I’ve chosen to reject the safe, standard studio norms that many still abide by. My focus is on originality, art, and emotion. It is about a personal style that prioritises the feeling of the portrait over clinical perfection.»
