Featured: January 2026 Top Photo Award – «Imad»
I am delighted to share that my portrait of Imad has been selected as a Featured Photo for January 2026 by the Top Photo Awards. To kick off the new year, I wanted to showcase a piece that strips away the noise and focuses on the fundamental elements of photography: light, shadow, and character.
The Vision
In this session with Imad, the goal was a deliberate use of hard light. In a world of soft, filtered imagery, there is something deeply resonant about the raw honesty of high-contrast black and white.
By using a single, hard light source, I aimed to:
- Carve out the geometry: Highlighting the architectural strength of Imad’s features.
- Embrace the shadows: Allowing the dark areas of the frame to create a sense of mystery and depth.
- Focus on texture: Bringing out every detail in the skin and expression that color often hides.
Technical Reflection
Black and white photography is not just about removing color; it is about seeing the world in tones. This award recognizes the technical precision required to balance «blown» highlights against deep, rich blacks without losing the essence of the subject. Being featured by Top Photo Awards is a great honour and a testament to the creative energy we are building here in Madrid for 2026.

Me complace compartir que mi retrato de Imad ha sido seleccionado como «Featured Photo» de enero de 2026 por los Top Photo Awards. Para comenzar el nuevo año, quería presentar una obra que eliminara el ruido visual y se centrara en los elementos fundamentales de la fotografía: la luz, la sombra y el carácter.
La Visión
En esta sesión con Imad, el objetivo fue el uso deliberado de la luz dura. En un mundo lleno de imágenes suaves y filtradas, hay algo profundamente resonante en la honestidad cruda del blanco y negro de alto contraste.
Al utilizar una única fuente de luz dura, busqué:
- Esculpir la geometría: Resaltando la fuerza arquitectónica de las facciones de Imad.
- Abrazar las sombras: Permitiendo que las zonas oscuras del encuadre crearan una sensación de misterio y profundidad.
- Enfocar la textura: Revelando cada detalle de la piel y la expresión que el color, a menudo, suele ocultar.
Reflexión Técnica
La fotografía en blanco y negro no consiste solo en eliminar el color; se trata de ver el mundo en tonos. Este premio reconoce la precisión técnica necesaria para equilibrar las altas luces frente a negros profundos y ricos, sin perder la esencia del sujeto. Ser seleccionado por los Top Photo Awards es un gran honor y un testimonio de la energía creativa que estamos construyendo aquí en Madrid para este 2026.
